Environmental degradation is a major world problem. What causes this problem, and what can we do to prevent it?

In today’s world, environmental deterioration is alarming on a global scale. That is, environmental degradation poses serious threats to almost every aspect of human life. In this essay, I will elaborate on the main contributing factors to this problem and come up with some viable solutions.

It is clear that deterioration of the environment is driven by a number of factors. First, one of the main drivers behind environmental degradation is overpopulation. To put it simply, mortality rate has been in decline and fertility rate has been on increase thanks to medical advancements, which leads to an unprecedentedly rapid growth in population around the world, especially in recent years. However, overpopulation can give rise to the ever growing demand for land, food, clothes and shelter, putting strains on diminishing natural resources of our environment. Moreover, environmental deterioration is closely linked to human activities. There is evidence to demonstrate that deforestation and pollution act as a catalyst for alarming environmental damage, which can be seen mostly in every part of human life. Trees being cut down to make way for homes and industries, fossil fuel being burnt to run vehicles and factories are two notable examples.

It is true that eco-degradation can be tackled in a number of ways. A solution is for the government to introduce possible regulations. It is urgent that the authorities set high taxes for activities that trigger damage to our ecosystem and support eco-friendly behavior with financial subsidies. An additional remedy to environmental deterioration is to heighten awareness about its severity and urgency through education campaigns, which is believed to play a crucial role in inspiring individuals to take actions for the future.

In conclusion, from what has been discussed above, eco-degradation is attributable to overpopulation and human activities. However, this situation can be ameliorated by introducing strict regulations and raising public awareness.
