Please check (and correct) my writing

Hi. Is my writing acceptable? The parts in bold are what I want you to check. Thank you.

Jones raises his gun, shoots the cowboy dead, and smiles at Colton. Colton steps over, puts a bullet in the cowboy's body himself, and smiles back at Jones. Jones immediately responds by sending another bullet in/into/through the cowboy's body. Startled, Colton jumps away from the body, the smile wiped off his face. He shoots the body again. So does Jones. It goes on like that for some time, until Jones suddenly fires at Colton, who dodges and fires back at Jones, but misses.
