To teach is to learn twice. I grew up watching that in action because both my parents were teachers. Even though my dad died when I was a little I heard a lot of stories about him how he was dedicated to his job and how his students loved him. My mother, who is still a teacher, although the responsibility of raising me and my brother lays on her alone she too was dedicated to her job. She was always making lesson plans, studying, updating herself, making teaching aid materials. Growing up watching that makes me makes me want to be an academician.
My passion to electronics and technology starts when I was in elementary school. I always try to know how these devices work, to repair them when they broke up and some times to make my own stuff using parts of broken devices. Because of this and because I have interest to maths and physics I joined Addis Ababa university after I graduate from high school and study electrical and computer engineering there.
When I was a second year student we take an introduction to computing course and my interest to computers and programing starts here. And when I take object oriented programming and computer architecture courses my interest grows. When I was a fourth year student we have to choose a stream and I choose computer engineering stream to explore more about computers.
After I graduate from Addis Ababa university I start my dream work, being a lecturer, at debre berhan university. As mentioned it in the beginning teaching is learning twice I learn a lot about computers by preparing my self to class and my interest to computers grows even more and more. I wish to expand my knowledge on computer engineering and share this knowledge to my students and contribute to the growth of my country. So I decided to pursue my masters degree and starts searching for scholarships. Then I found out about the GKS program which will definitely help me achive this dream of mine.
Even though my grades was not that great in the courses I have mentioned before, the courses which got me interested in computer engineering I study very hard on my own, take on projects of my own because I believe the problem was not getting enough practice, get a good understanding of the courses. I even challenged my self and taught these courses to the students in debre berhan university.
I choose to study in Korea for a lot reasons. First of all Korea is one of the most technologically advance country in the world. The fast Internet, the biggest electronics industries including Sumsang and LG and the attention they give to technology, education and innovation makes Korea the best place to study engineering and technology. Second I always admire how Korea become one of the richest country in the world starting from one of the poorest country in 1960s. Me and my country could learn a lot from this fast growth. Finally I once watched a picture where Korean tourists giving respect to the Korean war veterans in Ethiopia, they were on their knees, I was amazed by how the respect people that once helped them and that sparked my interest to explore more about their culture.
