Essay & Composition Writing

Please, can someone help me with a Motivation Letter for SVE?

This is a motivation letter to apply to European Voluntary Service (EVS).

It is a program thought for "single person applications" and we are a couple, it is almost "mission impossible", but we tried.

Please, if anyone can read it and give me some advice or criticism to improve it... I really need help with this, because I'm not good at writing in English.

Thank you.

Date
Seville, Spain

Dear (voluntary coordinator),

This is probably not a common letter. We are (Name1) and (Name2) ... yes, we are a couple. We know this circunstance may not like you, but we can’t lose the opportunity to try. With this letter we want to show you the desire and hope we have of being chosen by you.

We are both 28 years old. We are Spanish, living in a town of Seville. We’ve been together for over 8 years and in addition to being a couple, we are friends: we have many things in common like love for animals or the type of food that we like, but we are also different in many ways.

(Name1): I am a cheerful, understanding and patient.I like doing things for others, for instance, I worked for years in maintenance of equipment and networks in a school in my town without getting paid for it. Always willing to adopt new skills.I love sports especially football, which I practice since I was a kid and I still do now at least once a week. Also regularly practice tennis, paddle or running. Another of my interests are videogames and new technologies

(Name2): I think I am a friendly, empathetic and creative. When I was in high school, I was a volunteer for two years in a youth information center, helping the organization of activities and workshops. Also I belonged for more than five years to an association of theater, where we did performances primarily for children and some festivals in my town and nearby towns (once we won the second prize in a contest). Entertainment that I enjoy are listening to music, make cakes occasionally, walking or running, and reading online articles or news to keep me informed.

We both like cats, dogs, going to the movies or the theater, watching series, spending time with our friends and family, eat chocolate, see new places and many more things.

When we heard about EVS Program we immediately knew we wanted to be part of it. We have not had many opportunities before but we feel the need to grow as individuals, enrich our culture, discover new people, new cultures and languages and learn from a multicultural perspective. We believe that participating in social work in a project like this, is the best way to do something that really fits the way we are.

(Here we will say something about the organization and the specific project)

If you are looking for energic, responsible and committed people, you are looking exactly to us.

We work well together, but we also work very well separately, individually or as members of a team. We are both looking forward to doing this, but sadden us to be apart for a long period of time, so we asked to be part of your organization and (project name), since we are really interested.
We don’t need to spend all day together, not even live in the same house, but at least we’d be in the same country.

European awareness is another of our interest, so we attended several activities related to Europe like the seminar "El parlamento Europeo que tu eliges" (The European Parliament that's your choice) in May 2009 organized by the European Documentation Centre at the University of Seville for 10 hours and the course “Cuidadanía Europea y derechos fundamentales” (European Citizenship and fundamental rights) for 20 hours, organized by Inter-University in European Centre of Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUCI) and the University of Seville, in February 2010. Besides we have attended other activities related to sustainable development or immigration, which helped us complete our university records.

We are not looking for holidays, we are ready to work hard, learn and take advantage of all the good things, for sure, (organization name) can offer us to improve ourselves. We would be very grateful if you would give us a chance to contribute to this project.

We thank you for your time and hope for a positive response. If you have any questions, please contact us via e-mail. We look forward to your reply.

Yours sincerely,
