Please call me at/on 5678-1234

0Should I use 01i01b00at02b02i00 or 01i01b00on02b02i00 before a phone number?02br
00If the phone number is considered something like an address, it seems that we should use 01i01b00at02b02i00. If the phone number is equivalent to "the phone" or "the line", 01i01b00on02b02i00 would be more appropriate.02br
00Which one is better?02br
00Thanks. 0-

0Thank you very much again. It is very clear to me now. However, I can't resist to ask why it is "01i01b00on02b02i00 extension 1234". I know we don't always have answers on the use of prepositions, but extension 1234 is just another form of phone number. Why isn't it 01i01b00at02b02i00? 0-

CalifJim I always use at.CJ

So do I. I often hear "on", but I have no idea where that usage comes from.

It's a US versus British thing. Americans say "at", Brits say "on."

So you choose: Call me at 123-4567 or Call me on 123-4567.

Hope you get the calls you want!!

I am American so I say at, but I go to school in Germany where they learn British English so I often don't know what I should use!!

I agree, working on website with phone numbers in the UK, and it is always problematic for me to find the correct way to spell it - on or at the phone number. For example, on this page i really struggled with this issue. Actually after reading the answers on this page, i can see i got some work to do : )
