Please assist me in editing my Statement of purpose for MA application

Statement of Purpose



I am applying for admission to the masters Degree Programme in International Trade Law and Economics. I would be extremely excited and interested in pursuing a masters degree in International Trade Law and Economics. I have a particular interest in International Trade which I find intriguing, I sincerely believe that the XYZ Programme will deepen my understanding of the dynamics of international Trade. When I was introduced to Economics in secondary I realised that it was a subject I enjoyed most and the facet of economics intrigued me very much and I decided to pursue further studies in economics.



During my Bachelors degree programme in Social Science I majored in Economics I was therefore equipped with various tools used in economic analysis. I obtained rigorous training in Econometrics, Elementary and Intermediate Macro and Micro Economics, International (Trade) Economics, Principles of Cooperate Finance and Investment , Development Economics to mention but a few. My other courses, already chosen, were interesting and gave different perspectives, but I only really came alive when studying economics. That is why I write to you now. I am asking you to give me the opportunity to fulfil a wish long cherished, of being able to study nothing but international trade.



Upon graduating in 2001, I joined the Public Service as a Commercial Officer in the Ministry Industry and Commerce where I am employed to date. My work mainly involves monitoring developments in the Multilateral Trading System and also the all regional trading arrangements that my country is a party to. I am very eager to see how one might use economic theory to tackle real life problems. I, therefore, believe that studying in the XYZ programme will be an opportunity to develop my career and in turn contribute efficiently to the development and advancement of my Countries Trade Policy interests.



I find the subject of International Economics very interesting and an area I want to explore. I am more fascinated by game theoretical modelling of issues pertaining to International Economics. I believe that game theoretic models can be effectively used in International Economics as many policy issues such as negotiations on Tariff reductions, formation of Regional Trading Arrangements and the MTS at large all seem to have some game theoretic character. It should be interesting to analyze the trade diversion effects of Preferential Trading Agreements and also their impact on institutions like the WTO.



My goal is to become a skilled trade negotiator for my country and also to teach about the Multilateral Trading System particularly at a university level and hopefully be able to convey to my students my own passion for the subject. I believe that the XYZ Programme would be invaluable in helping me achieve these objectives. It would enable me to channel my qualitative and conceptual skills in analysing trade issues and would open up new avenues in research.



It is my utmost aspiration to study at the because, I feel it emphasises on major systematic tools that are necessary for research in international trade. I have constructive analytical and mathematical skills and I want to exploit these skills to the greatest extent possible. I feel that the help and guidance that can be provided to me by the distinguished faculty of your university will be highly invaluable. I am sure if I am given the opportunity to study at your university that attracts some of the best students from all over the world, it would provide me with an environment competitive enough to bring out the best in me.





I hope that the admission committee finds my background and strengths commensurate with the requirements of the XYZ programme.
