Please answer my questions

Me: "According to the doctor my friend's prognosis wasn't good, but still somehow encouraging. I don't know what he based that on."

Is it correct and natural?

Is it clear that "somehow" in this context means "for a reason that is not known or specified"? And does it show my bitterness towards the doctor that my friend is now dead?

I appreciate it.
