Please a teacher check these sentences

Hi dear firends

Hope someone who is teacher check these sentences.

Here's sentences:

1.The old box that had laid in the attic for ten years was covered with bust and cowebs

2.The motorist ran over a child's toy that was lying in the street.

3.Metal tools which lie outside in the rain will eventually rust.

4.The letter which laid on the desk for so long has disappeard.

Already i know LAY,LIE:The verb lay which means to put or place can be active or passive and take an object .The verb lie,when it means to repose ,is never passive and never followed by an object.

1.The problem is lay in the case 4 .Is it in past form?

I agree with you. "Which was laid" should be correct!

'The letter which lay on the desk. . .' means 'The letter which was in repose on the desk. . .' and is in the past tense of the intransitive verb to lie.

If you want to use the passive of the transitive verb to lay you need to say 'The letter which had been laid on the desk . . .'

As far as i know english sentences must have sequence of time .

PAST FORM againts present perfect ?is'n it? OR past perefect againts present perfect?

I would be appreciated if you or other friends give me more information.
