I don't know if it's an idiom, but to me it means nature doesn't pay any attention to our vain desires etc, it just goes its way...

Tide here means the same as time (Have a look at the following link). It suggests that you have to do the things that you want to do now, and not a later time, time doesn't stand still waiting for us, it passes fast, so it's better to value the time we have.
