Plead for?

Hi! everyone.I want to know,how I could say this sentence.
A lawyer says-:I was pleading for that incidents being true.(I want to imply that Lawyer is saying I wanted to prove that ,that incident happened last night is true event.(it might be the incident of murder.)
Is the above sentence correct?
I would be very grateful,if you told me the synonyms of (to plead someones case.) I mean what a lawyer does?

Hi,

It's better to omit 'for'.

And I'd prefer to say 'I was pleading the truth of that incident'.
