Plays - Noun or Verb?

They went out for dinner, to the movies, concerts, or plays.

Is 'plays' verb or noun here? I saw on the Internet that 'plays' can mean performance.

Top answer

Yes, it's a noun, the plural form of "play". For example, "Waiting for Godot" is a play by the playwright Samuel Beckett. A play is a piece of literary work which is primarily meant to be performed on stage in a theatre, so it's a theatrical work.
