Playing the guitar/playing on guitar

Here are two sentences to express my ability in playing a musical instrument:

I play the guitar.
I play on guitar.

I think the first one is correct, second one is not... there should not be a preposition "on" in front of the word guitar... am I right?

but what about this sentence:
I will play a song for you on my guitar.

Is it correct to use the preposition "on" in this case?
