Do '1' and '2' mean the same?

Doesn't '2' mean:

a) Today, he was as good as you'll ever see anyone in a soccer match.


3) Today, he played as well as you'll ever see him play in a soccer match.
4) Today, he played as well as you'll ever see in a soccer match.

Do '3' and '4' mean the same?

Doesn't '4' mean:

b) Today, he played as well as you'll ever see anyone play in a soccer match.
