Vocabulary

play sb around/play around somebody

I was talking to a teacher the other day and she used an expression I cannot exactly recall but it was something along this line " teacher should know when to be firm otherwise children play them around/play around them".

The meaning seems it has to do with children pulling teacher's leg/ taking advantage of lack if firmness. However I would like to know what exactly the (idiomatic?) expression is and if you could provide some example how to better use it.

Thanks a lot!
