Play mum-dad?

Dear Everyone,

What do you call it when children play in a way that they personify their parents? Like, they imagine they are their own mother or father, and their friend/sibling or toy their son or daughter?

Please, could you tell me?

Thank you.

Hi, You could indeed say 'playing mums and dads'. Or maybe 'playing families'. Playing 'dress-up' involves wearing special clothes of some kind.

When I was a kid, we called it "Playing house." I don't know how regional that usage was.

That's the term I recall as well. I would guess it's used throughout the U.S.
