Plateau or plateau

I understand Tibetan Plateau needs capitalisation.

BUT, what about the word 'plateau' on its own used to refer to the Tibetan Plateau?


Example:


Tibetan Plateau-led explanation do not provide alternative explanations for carbon drawdown but instead provide alternatives for atmospheric circulatory changes sometimes attributed to the Plateau.
