It doesn't seem likely to me that the word "plastic" would be mentioned if these were video screens, so my guess is that they are large sheets of plastic on which an image is printed, or possibly projected, so that visitors standing in the appropriate position can see on the screen what they would be able to see in real life if the visibility was not so poor.
