plastering

How is it called when somebody takes something, e.g. a stone, and takes some clay (or plaster or mud) and keeps putting it onto the stone, covering it all over. I think he/she plasters the clay around the stone. Or plasters the stone around with clay. Is it so?

I'd say "cover the stone with clay" or 'envelop the stone in clay."
