The technical word for that is "http://www.merriam-webster.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=quincunx" ... I don't think it's commonly used, though.

I'll tell you a secret. We use a similar word (it's "quinconce" in Italian) and I found the pronunciation of our word difficult, too!
