Placing adverb

Hi.
Please read the sentence below.

Some of the earliest paintings yet discovered come from Africa, and, like the treasured pebble in the form of a face found at Makapansgat, the oldest African paintings were portable objects.

Q) Wouldn't it read better if yet was placed after discovered?

I was curious about the grammar of my question.
Isn't it better to say:

Wouldn't it have read better if yet was placed after discovered?

instead of:

Wouldn't it
