placement of still

Hi teachers,

Would you tell me where 'still' is put in the sentence?

1. Do you (still) think you can be happy staying here?
2. Do you think you (still) can be happy staying here?
3. Do you think you can (still) be happy staying here?

Thanks

That depends on what meaning you want.
In sentence 1, "still" modifies "think". In 2 and 3, "still" modifies 'can be happy'.

Hi Aspara Gus,

Thanks for answering.

What is the different between?

Do you still think you can be happy staying here?
Do you think you can still be happy staying here?

Thanks

The difference is fairly insignificant, of course, but it’s rather obvious and self-explanatory.

Do you still think that you can be happy?
(Is it still your belief that you can be happy?)

Do you think you can still be happy?
(Do you think you can continue to be happy?)
