Grammar

placement of an adverb

Should I write this sentence as "I used to do it occasionally", or "I occasionally used to do it"?

I once heard that advebs of frequency should always go before the main verb. Is this true?

Yes. Adverbs of frequency should go before the main verb -- as a general rule. But many of them can also go in other places as well.

  • occasionally is usually best at the end, in my opinion, perhaps because it's such a long word, having five syllables, perhaps for other reasons.
