Hi there teachers,
What is the difference in the meaning of the following sentences, please?
[1]The teacher quietly asked the children to finish their game.
[2]The teacher asked the children to finish their game quietly.
The grammar site which I've taken these examples from says that in [1], the adverb quietly modifies the verb asked,
while in [2], the adverb quietly modifies the verb finish, but I don't understand what difference does changing the
placement of the adverb bring to the sentence [2].
In #1, the teacher is quiet. In #2, the children are (asked to be) quiet.
