Placebo Effect

Hi.
I am looking for a word or phrase similar to placebo effect. As placebo effect is justed used for food, I was thinking if there is a word used more generally.

A. You know that you cannot use the bathroom for the next couple of hours.
B. oh, I think I have to pee.
A. it is just a feeling man, you don't have a pee, it is just a placebo thought.
Sorry for this example.

I hope I was able to convey the meaning I intended.
Thank you
Hamid

I would say that what you describe is some kind of "psychological effect", but not a "placebo effect" or "placebo thought", though a placebo effect is a subset of psychological effects, of course. In very ordinary, casual situations like this we might say 'It's just your mind playing tricks on you" or "You're just imagining things" or, a bit more formally, "You're giving in to the power of suggestion". I'd use "psychosomatic".

hrsaneiit is just a feeling man
I feel that is the best way to express that thought. Placebo effect/thought are very, very different.

I would also comment that the placebo effect is not just used in food. It is a standard feature in medicine and pharmaceutical clinical trials. Derived from Latin "I will please".

Placebo effect: Also called the placebo response. A phenomenon in which a placebo -- a fake treatment, an inactive substance like sugar, distilled water, or saline solution -- can sometimes improve a patient's condition simply because the person has the expectation that it will be helpful. Expectation also plays a potent role in the placebo effect. The more a person believes they are going
