Place value and face value

Can I describe place value and face value like this.

5427

Here the face value of any digit will be the value of the digit itself regardless its position.

Place value describes or the value of a position of a digit, and a number of zeroes will be put at the right side of the digit as many number of digits it has in the given number.

Like in the number 5427 the place value of 5 is 5000 as it had 3 digits with it in the original number.

Please correct my grammar here it's important for me to learn such a way.
