This passage is written in a very archaic and pretentious style – most English people would have difficulty in understanding this. Anyway, to answer your questions: 1. ‘which’ refers to the word ‘method’. 2. This language is so pretentious. The author seems to be trying to impress by using flowery language, rather than making his meaning clear – I can only offer the following: ‘can we be sure of making a true comparison of the various teaching methods’
By the way, ‘I’ll’ should be written with a capital ‘I’ and you spelt ‘explanations’ incorrectly.
