"Place", "Put" and "Lay"

Hi!

I would like to know the differences between these three words, "Place", "Put" and "Lay", when it comes to moving something from one place to another.

Hi, The first and main difference is that the word 'put' is used much, much, much more often than the other two. It's probably one of the commonest verbs in the language. Best wishs, Clive

The first and main difference is that the word 'put' is used much, much, much more often than the other two.

It's probably one of the commonest verbs in the language.

"Put" simply means to locate it in a given spot. (deposit it)

"Place" and "lay" describe the manner in which the act of depositing is performed. To "place" something is to carefully set it precisely in the prescribed location.

I wouldn't say that.
Both words have quite a number of shades of meaning, which you'll find in any good dictionary.

Let me just offer a couple of very broad and general comments that may help you get an overall 'feel' for these words.
