Place of Adverbs

Hi~~

The underlined "continually to confront " in the following article, shouldn't it be as, "to continually confront"?

************

It seems the curse of modern man continually to confront new possibilities of self-destruction. He emerged from World War II armed with nuclear power to obliterate all human life. His population has since grown at a rate that could threaten disaster on a global scale.

"continually to confront" is used to avoid the mistake called the "split infinitive", which says that you should never put any word between infinitival "to" and its verb. The infinitive is to confront , and to continually confront , or to always confront or to quickly confront , and so on, are all examples of "split infinitives". Many grammarians feel that a split infinitive is not a serious mistake, however, and you will often find it both in speech and in writing.
