Pivot VS fulcrum

What is the difference between a pivot and a fulcrum?

I haven't heard fulcrum outside of a science lesson. My guess though other than people might not understand fulcrum, is that a pivot is a fixed point where fulcrum is just a point.

They can be used synonymously in some cases.
I think of a fulcrum as the pivot for a (pry) bar which is approximately horizontal. At least one of the forces involved is gravity. The direction of the second force would depend on whether the bar is set up as a first, second, or third class lever. A simple balance scale would be first class.
