Pitch camp

My dog likes to lie down next to the dishwasher and then we can't use it because she's blocking the way.

Could I say that she oftens pitches camp in the kitchen and that we have to step over her every time we want to get something from the cabinets? I know that 'pitch camp' is usually used when talking about camping, but I was wondering that perhaps it could also be used in this situation.

Thank you.
