No matter how you do this, it will look awkward because of the marks for quotes and punctuation. I would simply go with "Pirates of the Caribbean" director [ whoever it really is ]....

A less clunky rewrite might be:

Michael Jones, director of the phenomenal hit "Pirates of the Caribbean", is set to begin filming his newest movie in Queensland.

If you are writing for a newspaper, rather than an MLA paper, one would use quotation marks. (I see it in the NYTimes all the time) For this reason alone, a reworking would make sense.
