What does the word "Pigeonholed" mean, referring to people?
The word is used in the next context:
One guy had to stay in the command module and the other two were going to go to the Moon and I was... Pigeonholed, if that's the right word, as a command module pilot and so that I lost my chance of walking on the Moon but in return for that, I gained a chance to fly to the Moon.
Thank you very much!

I believe the expression comes from the small compartments above old-fashioned desks, used to organize papers, etc. Once you've filed something into its pigeonhole, it stays there.
