Pier Six Brawl

Question

What exactly is a Pier-Sixer or Pier Six Brawl? I have an idea that it's when multiple people get involved in an all-out physical altercation in which fists fly, chairs go airborne, blood is shed, etc.
Is this the case?

"The Pier Six Brawl is a match that occurs once a year at the ****** New Year PPV event in London, England. All A1E superstars minus the current World Champion are eligible to participate in the match. The winner of the match earns the right to participate in a match of their choosing, ranging from a World Title shot, a dream match, a special stipulation match, or any match they can think of.

Rules of the Pier Six Brawl

1. The match takes place in a ring surrounded by a sea of barbed wire, approximately ring apron-high and fifteen feet deep.
2. The order of entrants into the Pier Six Brawl are randomly determined through a lottery draw.
3. The competitors who draw the numbers 1 and 2 enter the ring over a special bridge built to cross the barbed wire, and start the match.
4. Every two minutes thereafter, another competitor will enter the match.
5. Eliminations can occur at any time.
6. Once the last entrant has entered the ring, the special bridge is taken to the back, and is not used again.
7. The only way to be eliminated is to be thrown over the top rope and into the sea of barbed wire.
8. Once entrants are eliminated down to the final two competitors, a Cell lowers and surrounds the ring AND the barbed wire.
9. The only way to win the match is to exit the ring, wade THROUGH the barbed wire, and exit the Cell."

Dozens of headless skeletons excavated from a northern English building site appear to be the remains of Roman gladiators, one of whom had bites from a lion, tiger, bear or other large animal, archaeologists said Monday. Experts said new forensic evidence suggests the bones belong to the professional fighters, who were often killed while entertaining spectators.

Wysocki said gladiators were often beheaded as an act of mercy after suffering horrific injuries during their fights. All of the skeletons were buried with pottery, animals or other offerings, suggesting they were respected people, not criminals.

"It's clearly a very intriguing cemetery, but I'm skeptical. Identifying gladiators is always tricky," said Jim Crow, the head of archaeology at the University of Edinburgh. "There could be a host of circumstances for a group of men who've lost their heads - they might be soldiers beheaded for some particular reason."

Pier Six brawl comes from Staten Island. Boxing matches were held on the waterfront in the 1920s.
