Pictures from his youth

"I have some old pictures of my father when he was young."
Does the above sentence sound right if I have to say that I have some old pictures of my father from/in his youth. I think that "when he was young" is an adverbial clause and its use in the above sentence is not correct.

Hi, MM

What type of clause is 'when he was young'? Surely it isn't adverbial..

Well, what's left? Adjectival?

How can it be an adjective clause when it starts with "when" ?

Then what do you think it is?

An adjective clause should qualify the subject.
For example,in the sentence " William, fed up with his life, decided to commit suicide","fed up with his life" acts as adjective and describes the state of mind of William.
But "when he was young" does not describe the subject ,it just refers to the state that the subject was in when he was young. So how can it be an adjective clause ?

You haven't told us what you think it is.

I feel that the construction is like that of an adverbial clause.
I don't know what it is for sure.

I do, too. What do you think, 1b3?

"I have some old pictures of my father when he was young."

The only reason it looks adverbial is because it starts with 'when.' Adverbials modify a verb, adjective or the entire sentence. I can't see it modifying any of these.

I feel it may be a noun clause:

I have some old pictures of my father

I have some old pictures
