picture the view, backing out with my prize

bent down to pick up the paper I'd just dropped. Wouldn't you know? It had caught an air current and fallen in such as a way that it was smack dab under the cot. I got down on my knees, and had to duck my head so I could practically crawl under the darn thing to retrieve it. Finally, I got the tips of my fingers on it and flicked it toward me, and backing out with my prize, I was startled to bump into Colonel Prickett. I flushed, picturing the view I had presented to him as I rummaged among the dust bunnies.

Please explain the emboldened parts to me.
