Can we say "the friendship/relationship will never pick up ( improve)"?

Hi, Can we say "the friendship/relationship will never pick up ( improve)"? I wouldn't say it's wrong. However, I usually associate 'something picks up' not only with the concept of general improvement but also with with the concept of "improving in speed".

I wouldn't say it's wrong. However, I usually associate 'something picks up' not only with the concept of general improvement but also with with the concept of "improving in speed".



eg My business is picking up - I'm getting customers more frequently.
