Hello, everbody,
I have two questions from Prison Break and I was wondering if you could have a look at them? Many thanks!
Q1: In this context, does " P.I. " stand for " Private Investigator" ?
Q2: What does "backtrack" mean here?
I did not see there is one definition which is suitable for this context.
http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_/backtrack.html But I figured, does it mean "to use a special electronic equipment to track back that phone call" ??
Nick: I've been going over the incident report from the night of the murder, and somebody made an anonymous phone call to the local cops claiming to see Lincoln running away from the garage with bloody pants.
Veronica: We've been through this, okay, you can't cross-examine a witness if you don't know who it is.
Nick: We don't need to know who it is, we know where he is.
Veronica: What do you mean?
Nick: Well, it took some doing, but a
P.I. friend of mine was able to
backtrack that phone call to the police department. Whoever made that call couldn't have seen Lincoln running from the garage that night.
Veronica: How do you know?
Nick: Because the phone call came from Washington, D.C.
