Phrases that trigger title use

Hi,
I think certain phrases like 'serves as' trigger the use of title. I know there are some other ones but can't think of them. Can you give me some typical ones that trigger this use?

Thank you. I think this might trigger the need I was thinking of: elected as secretary. Do you have more like the one I gave (if what I gave is what indeed triggers the need).

Well: he was elected secretary / appointed chairman / voted president / chosen premier. It doesn't work with plumbers and waitresses.
