Hi Eveybody!
I'm an Italian student and the next week I'm taking an exam about the phrases and clauses analysis of an article.
I'm a lot of perplexities about this kind of exercise and I'd like if you could help me.
- Is it right the analysis of this sentence? : [In [April NP] PP] [ Japan's Government NP] [Caused VP] [anger NP] When (conj ???) [It Np (and Dummy Subject)] [raised VP] [The [Upper AdjP ?] [Limit NP] NP] [Of [Safe NP] [Radiation NP] [explosure NP] PP] [For [Children NP] PP] [From [1 (Determiner?) Millisievert NP] [A year NP]pp] [To [20 MsV NP] [a year NP] PP], [the [same AdjP][ Level NP] NP] [[the[international AdjP][Commission NP] NP] [on [radiological AdjP][protection NP]PP]NP] [Recommends VP] [For [[[nuclear NP] [Plant NP] AdjP] [Workers NP] NP]PP].
- Are "WHEN" and "WHERE" considered as Conjuncions? "AS" too? Can they introduce a relative clause or what else? For example, in the last sentence : " [...] When it raised the upper limit of safe radiation exposure for children... [...]" Can I consider it as a... relative clause? Nominal relative clause? Temporal clause? =S
- Then, the word "Millisievert" (unit of dose equivalent radiation) is a LOAN WORD from Science area?
Thanks a lot for your help! I hope someone would answer and help me!
Greetings from Italy!
