phrase/more importantly

I would like to know if at this time, September of 2005, the phrase "more importantly" is accepted as being grammatically correct. I see it used quite often and it still makes me cringe. Thanks.

Anonymous I see it used quite often 30,300,000 Google hits. That's too many times for a phrase like that to be in print, even if they're all correctly used.

I personally am uncomfortable accepting the phrase when what is called for is an adjectival form, not an adverbial form. And, more important, it seems to me that usage, now favoring the adverbial, has entirely blurred the distinction (which I believe is no more subtle than many other grammatically nuanced situations.)
