Phrase "Motion practice" (US legal system)

Hi guys,

I'm working on the translation of the Law & Order: SVU episode. And I'm stuck on the legal term "Motion practice". Does someone know what does it mean when the judge asks the councelor of the defendant: "Any motion practice?" ....Exact context: Situation is from the court trial with the woman who was being abused by her husband...She's there, because she shoot him when he was sleeping...

Judge: I assume the people request remand?

Councelor: Your Honor, we request home confinement. With electronic monitoring.

My client is her husband's sole caretaker. His disability requires
round-the-clock assistance.

Prosecutor: Hire a nurse. She won't shoot him in his sleep.

Judge: Elizabeth, I expect better of you. Under the circumstances,
remand is appropriate.

Judge: Any motion practice?

(councelor handed over documentation)

Councelor: Notice that we will be pursuing an affirmative defense.

My client was a battered woman who use reasonable force to protect herself
against imminent danger.

Prosecutor: A sleeping man poses imminent danger?

Councelor: He beat my client on a daily basis.

.

.

thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards

Tomas

I know that there are many articles on the internet about this term, but they're written in hard english for me, so I was hoping that maybe someone knows it...ok, no problem, I'll try to figure it out on my own...
