Phrase in a sentence

Could you please polish this sentence:

"I have no problem walking 5 or 6km, but I soon realized that Paris WAS A CROSSROADS OF ROADS, and as tourist, I couldn't get to the hotel where I was staying on my own."

Note: I'm particularly interested in the phrase in capital letters. Does it sound good to say 'a crossroad of roads'?
