Phrase: Break away from

Hi

Does the phrase break away from work here? Is the rest OK?

She was a rebel -- wanted to break away from the traditions set deep in her culture. She knew her dreams would never come true.

Thanks,

Tom

She was a rebel. She wanted to break away from the traditions set deep in her culture. (Do you mean: the traditions deeply ingrained in her by her culture?) She knew her dreams would never come true.

Thanks, AStars.

I want to say that she didn't want to follow the traditions the girls of her age were supposed/required to follow. For example, a particular dress code or behaving among men, etc.

Does the original give that sense?

The version I gave means that she had an inner conflict - to follow traditions, or violate them.

Maybe this:

She was a rebel and wanted to break away from her culture's traditions. She knew her dreams would never come true.
