Phrase: "a long time later" or "after a long time"

a) She walked along the beach, looking for special stones. After a long time she found a really wonderful stone.

b) She walked along the beach, looking for special stones. A long time later she found a really wonderful stone.

Which one is correct? Or are both correct? I'd go for b), but I'm not sure.
