Phrasal verbs which mean "happen"

Could someone please answer me the following question?

For some phrasal verbs that have a meaning of "happen", for example take place & turn up. is there any difference in case we're talking about certain events that happen, no matter if they're sudden or predictable. (This event takes place in ABC(place) / This event turns up in ABC, are they both correct?)

Thank you very much.

turn up = to happen unexpectedly take place = to happen Usually people or things turn up, not events so "this event turns up in ABC" sounds incorrect/(or unlikely) to me .
