Phrasal Verbs

Hi,

I am confused with phrasal verbs usage.

I read below sentences in a book

The light is so bright, could Switch it off.

We heard the news as soon as we switched on the Radio.

In first sentence It came between Switch and Off but in second it occurred after Switch Off.

Can anyone tell me the reason for it?
