Phrasal verbs

Hi,

Some transitive phrasal verbs allow their "particle" to be separated from them while some don't.

ex) "throw away"

A: Mark threw away the ball.(O)

B: Mark threw the ball away.(O)

ex) "come across"

A: I came across an interesting article last night.(O)

B: I came an interesting article across last night.(X)

Then, how about "put on (pounds/weight)"?

A: Amber put on 15 pounds in just 10 days(O)

B: Amber put 15 pounds on in just 10 days.(?)

Is 'B' correct or wrong?

I would appreciate an answer. Thanks.

Hi Clive,

Do you mean the "come across" example? The sentence 'B' is marked ungrammatical in my grammar book.

What about the third example? Do you think 'B' is correct?
