phrasal verbs

Hi,

I came across these sentences. Phrasal verbs should fill in these gaps. Can you help me with it, please?

1) You told the teacher that I cheated. I'll .............you.................for that. Just wait!

2)The students were very quiet, ....................on their computers. (Is there anything else possible except for working on?)

3) We're off! .................tight! (Is it OK to say Hold tight! ?)

Thank you very much in advance

I think your suggestions are fine. I suppose the students could be typing or sleeping on their computers. " For your first sentence, are you sure the second blank came before the word "for"?

I think your suggestions are fine. I suppose the students could be typing or sleeping on their computers. One can say "Hold tight," but it is often expressed "Hold on tight." For your first sentence, are you sure the second blank came before the word "for"? The obvious wording would be, "I'll get you for doing that."

Thank you. Yes, blanks/gaps are in right places (I rewrote these sentences from some workbook. Who knows, maybe authors made a mistake.) Is it possible to use the verb "get back at sb" in the same context (I'll pay you back=revenge)?

Hi Grammar Geek,

If you use "get back at someone" it means revenge.

If you "pay someone back" it could mean revenge. (It could also mean that if you buy something for me, I'll give you money later to pay you back." It has more than on meaning. However "payback" means revenge, retribution.
