Phrasal verbs

Can you please correct me in the following sentences:

1) He doesn't have a father, therefore his mom has difficulties to make ___ .(no idea)
2)Why don't you take __ a golf? (up??)

And rewrites:
3) He realised that he had been deceived (take).------>(no idea)

Well, if they must be phrasal verbs... 1) make out (= to succeed or to find a way to live) I think "a golf" is incorrect in the second one, if so... 2) Why don't you take up golf?

1) make out (= to succeed or to find a way to live)

I think "a golf" is incorrect in the second one, if so...

2) Why don't you take up golf? (= to begin to take interest in golf)

...if not, I have no idea either.
