Phrasal Verb - Try On

Try on

Definition: to put on an item of clothing in order to see what it looks like or to check it is the right size.
(This verb has more than one meaning)

E.g. 1: Wow, this cap looks awsome, may I try it on?
E.g. 2: I'd tried it on several times until I've finally bought these pants.

I'm not sure about the grammar of this second sentence. Is it right?

You're right, Clive.
Yes, it meant the pants. My bad.

When I say I TRIED ... shouldn't there be a time period specified? Like, I tried them LAST week and ...

Then I said I had tried (action started and ended in the past tense) them on several times until I have finally bought (action started in an uncertain past) these pants.

Thanks for checking me out, Clive!
